Nine9’s differentiated design successfully entered the European market and became a “standard maker” (for details, please refer to the 12th edition of the 2005.03.17 Economic Daily “Abrasive and Cutting Tools Album”)【Taichung News】
When the machine tool industry moved to China in large numbers and quickly to set up factories, it was the machinery peripheral equipment and tool manufacturers who continued to invest in building factories and adding equipment in Taiwan, actively expanding the scale of production, which showed that Taiwan’s industry still has Room for growth and development.
Tim Chang, the head of Nine9 Tools, believes that this Taipei Machine Tool Show will first pass through the assembly area on the second floor, and then to the complete machine area on the first floor. Gain a holistic understanding more effectively. At the same time, the clustering benefits of various parts and components industries are gradually fermenting, and it is hoped that the government and trade unions will notice the influence of parts and components.
Since cutting tools are consumable products, and when the prices of consumables such as energy and minerals continue to rise, the entire tool made of tungsten steel in the past has gradually evolved to be replaced by indexable tools. In addition, the cutting tool is coated on the surface to increase the life and minimize the energy or consumables, which also affects the product design trend.
Tim Chang said that the coating of tools can reduce consumption by 15 to 20% and reduce material waste, and the new micro or no-coolant cutting method is directly improved by nano-coating technology, which can achieve multiples of tool life.
In this Taipei Machine Show, we can observe from a few points whether the focus of Taiwan’s cutting tool industry is correct. First, we can see whether the manufacturers are actively launching newly developed products, or they are still following the old route of price competition and selling products of general specifications.
Tim Chang pointed out that compared with other industrially advanced countries, Taiwan’s tool manufacturing industry started relatively late, so it has always been able to play the role of a “standard follower” rather than a “standard setter”. However, with the introduction of new composite processing machines, new composite tools have gradually formed, and this emerging market is undergoing substantial changes, giving Taiwan’s tool industry the opportunity to change from the role of a follower to the role of a specification maker. Among them, the differentiated design and the less popular micro-specifications have more opportunities to cut in.
For example, take Nine9 Company, which has been focusing on indexable tools, as an example. From the differentiated design, it has successfully developed indexable tools to replace traditional center hole drilling tools, which not only greatly reduces the total amount of consumables for cutting tools, but also allows Major tool sellers in Germany and Europe turned to seek cooperation with Nine9, and took the initiative to publish Nine9’s tool products in their product sales catalogs. Tim Chang said that the differentiated design allows Nine9 to have the opportunity to become a specification setter, thus maintaining better benefits and profits. (Reporter Huang Shihua)
